    still alive
    ~waves~

I have not succumbed to the zombie apocolypse, it only feels like it as RL has me well and truly wiped out. Mostly good stuff, my family is well and work is cool, there's just so much of all of it. How did life get this complicated?

    drawing attention to a kickstarter
For many months now, I've been head over heels for Phil and Kaja Foglio's 'gaslamp fantasy' graphic story, Girl Genius. Like HP, It has a world of wonderful improbable people, objects, and governments.  Unlike HP, it has a female main protagonist.  A kick ass, self-rescuing, mad scientist female protagonist who I simply adore. I can't tell you everything there is to love about this, I just start to blather when I try.

You can read the story to date for free, starting here.  It updates M-W-F. You can also buy actual dead trees editions of the current eleven volumes of the story, except that several are out of print.  The Foglios have been running a kickstarter to raise enough money to publish volume 12, and reprint all the earlier ones.  They have succeeded - they will all shortly be in print again.  They have added a new stretch goal - if they can raise enough funding, they will hire a business manager, who will hopefully help them bring their wonderful story and art to a wider audience, and keep the business end of things running smoothly enough they won't have to go to such lengths to make new print runs happen. I'd really like to see them bring their business to the next level, which means they can make more cool stuff for me to buy from them.

Because all the stretch goals so far have been unlocked, a mere $10 pledge will get you all twelve volumes in PDF form. This is an unbelievable deal - normally each volume in digital form is that much.   Do go check them out

Misticon was the most awesome thing ever.

I met drinkingcocoa, who was my roomie,  christev, pokeystar, foxestacado, gelsey, swythyv, silverdoe7127, and very briefly teddyradiator!  That squee you heard, if you have dog ears, was me when teddy said she likes my stuff!

I couldn't believe the attention to detail and level of organizaton of the con comittee, I've never seen anything like it outside of professional events. From the unbelievable 'Fountain of Magical Brethren' in the lobby, to the random objects strewn around the hotel, to the bound program and mobile guidebook.  If there was drama or fail, it was well concealed.

I've posted pictures to photobucket - I didn't want to post anyone recognizable without an explicit ok,  so left out the costume show, except for the most amazing phoenix because it is from the back - so most of them are of the hotel decorations.

I was so wound up from work and stress of home obligations when I got there, but the unutterably comfy mood and friendliness has left me still in a bubble of peace, even two days back into the grind. You guys just rock.

oh - I got a really lucky perfect shot of Apple Tonks in the costume show - I'll send it to her, if someone will give her my gmail (same as LJ name) address and tell her to drop me a note.

    Reveals!!!!
delphipsmith is the amazing mystery author of my wonderful gift, Bide Lady, Bide.

Also, I can now confess to writing/painting Der Struwwelpotter,  and properly thankluvsev for her beta skillz, and teaoli for chearleading and handholding.

To the mods, you guys run the best party in the fandom. The level of excellence in the exchange made me step up and push my limits, and once again I am better for it. Thank you.

    Good things are worth repeating
When my gift posted, I wrote it was awesome. It still is, and if you haven't read Bide, Lady, Bide, do give it a look.
The Mystery Author combined my favorite prompts. It is a MLC, sort of, except for this slight problem, and includes elements from the Twa Magicians for a spectacular romantic magical finish.

    My exchange gift of awesomeness

My gift has posted today and is all I could have wished for, but funnier! You really must scurry right over and read it. Unless you are somewhere where you will have to explain the out loud laughing. Then just bookmark it for later.

And I'm not just saying this because I'm afraid of Shiv (Although I totally am (afraid I mean, not the saying nice things because)). Just go read and leave it some love. And don't be sending me the bill the the keyboard you wound up snorting your coffee into. Ktxbai

Just the thing for all the betas and queue admins
Fun silly game to practice your Mad Editing Skillz

You play the hapless underpaid and in-debt TA, to Professor Snerpus. (which sounds like a contraction of Snape and Sourpuss to me.)  Snerpus spends his time scanning facebook for insulting posts made about him by his students, and directs you to fail them. You have 30 seconds to review their essay and find enough mistakes to give them a grade of C or lower, or Snerpus will fire you.

as far as I can tell, it's iOS only, but perhaps it will expand.

Gun control is an important issue, but better mental health infrastructure will do more to prevent not only huge tragedies, such as happened last week, but smaller ones that play out every day.

    crazy Fall is crazy
We've had so many busy weekends, I've been positively desparate for quiet time alone.  This weekend was the *only* unscheduled one in weeks, and mr owl took the girls to see Frankenweenie without me - for which I was pathetically grateful. Three entire hours in the house without another living soul. Happy introvert is happy. And nearly done with exchange gift. *whew*

    mystery squash
My next door neighbor gifted me with a squash from her garden. I don't recognize this object. It *looks* like a three foot long string bean that might have been a prop from the 'atomic seeds' episode of Gillegan's Island.   Anyone know what it might be, and how to cook it?
